What is Mattie's Heartsong Swim?
You have an opportunity to share in the spirit of goodwill that Mattie J.T. Stepanek so graciously and bravely encouraged.
Mattie died in 2004, at the young age of 13, from a severe form of muscular dystrophy, but he is remembered through his remarkable legacy.
At the age of three, he began writing poetry, or “Heartsongs,” that promote harmony, peace, and hope.
His seven published books, including one coauthored by former President Jimmy Carter, continue that inspiration for millions across the world.
Community Enrichment
Proceeds from the Mattie’s Heartsong Swim will go toward expanding the handicapped accessibility of the 26-acre Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park at King Farm in Rockville, Maryland, and toward the installation and dedication of a statue of Mattie and his service dog, Micah.
